It's been a many years since I read House of Leaves. The way I remember the books is the inspiration for the website. One topic with a reference to another. Stories or list of facts descend into seeming rambling. Starting somewhere and ending up getting lost the redirecting footnotes and the sheer amount of info.

My web page won't become a book. And definitely not an well loved book like House of Leaves. I don't write. Writing hurts my soul. Every sentence makes me cringe. Furthermore House of Leaves has a particular style with the long academic treatise and technical descriptions found in the footnotes. I don't have the academic rigor, patience or knowledge of the topics I bring up to make that happen. Nor do I want to fake it. This project is supposed to be something light to do in my free time, not an laborious obsession which I assume writing a book like House of Leaves was.

Of course the academic rambles are not what's really good about House of Leaves. Much more interesting are characters and how they narrate their stories in different unreliable ways. An this reveals another major flaw in my project. My web page basically only has one character: me. I am the only narrator and the only character. At least so far. Must be pretty boring for you the reader.

ARE YOU HERE?

I often think that I don't really want to make a web page, I really want to make a game. Some kind of test labyrinth in which you could follow the clues to a goal. A game would be much better than a web page for this task since it's so easy to cheat on the web page. And the github with all the sites is also freely available. It should be a game, but I am just not ready to code anything like that.

Anyways, this is a work in progress. I don't really have a plan. It will become what it'll become. While my inspiration was this book, my web page is something entirely different. And that is good. ... BAD.
