I have been playing this stylish, emotional and very famous game. It is french, it is a turn based rpg, the title references a particular painting style. I find it very fun to play.
The game is a about this city called Lumiere or something, which is very reminiscent of a certain famous European city. This city seem fractured and very saturated with colors. It is hard to believe that anyone can actually live there. Additionally, the city is cursed. Everyone who is 34 (or was it 33?) and this number goes down every year. Everyone in the city can see the number light up in the distant horizon as it is "painted" there by the mysterious villain called "The Paintress". Since this is very scary for the citizens of Luminere, they send an expedition towards this number every year. The expedition typically consists of people having one more year to live. You the player gets to control some of these expeditioneers as they travel towards a scary and beautiful world only called "the continent" where this "Paintress" resides. Exciting stuff.
I am playing this game blind btw. No wiki.
One major theme, or rather moral lesson, seem to be learning from the previous generation and leaving a better world for the next. The world today is rife with, I would say misplaced, generational antagonism and this game seem to try to re-conciliate in its own small way. I think the shortened lifespan of the characters could help make this lesson more accessible to younger people, since they can more easily see themselves in the characters.
